The BEST chocolate cake!! It’s moist, doesn’t crumb too easy, and is very soft!! And the icing is the perfect sweet and creamy! I didn’t let my butter soften enough but was able to save it with extra milk. Everyone at the party raved about how good it was & when I say not a single piece was left, NOT A SINGLE PIECE. I didn’t even get any lol! Plus the one bowl feature, makes it that much better. No mixing the dry into the wet. Definitely recommend substituting the water for coffee for an even richer cake. It’s sooo good!!

Hi, has anyone made this with a raspberry filling instead? Would that work instead of putting the buttercream in each layer? I would still add the buttercream to the outside!

This is indeed the most amazing chocolate cake. Our go-to for birthdays in my family. My sister requested that I make four 9×13 inch pans of it for all the guests at her wedding last weekend. I mixed up three batches of batter and it was a smashing success. She ordered a small cake from a bakery for her and her husband to cut, but she was not the only one to say she liked my cake better. Hurrah for the most amazing chocolate cake! And many thanks.
PS. I have also successfully made this into a sourdough cake by omitting 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup water or coffee and adding 1 cup sourdough discard.

I have used this recipe so many times that my printed copy has stains all over it. It is by far the best chocolate cake recipe I have tried. I am making cupcakes with this recipe today and the kids will scarf them in a hurry. ❤️

This cake is a very good cake. It is a crowd pleaser for sure. I typically use strongly brewed coffee instead of water to amp up the chocolate flavor even more and that pairs wonderfully with vanilla cream cheese frosting. Thank you for sharing this recipe! I am making it by request right now. I have probably made this cake 20 times now. Always comes out perfect.
