These turned out light and fluffy inside and crispy outside. I used whole milk and it was fine. I cut this down by half and got 6 waffles from this using a standard round waffle iron. I’ve made these twice and they’ve turned out great both times. This is a keeper!

Made these with pumpkin pie spice and frozen thawed and drained rhubarb they were wonderful will make in future

Can plain Kefir be substituted if I don’t have buttermilk or should I just use whole milk?

I usually use Queen Elizabeth’s recipe but I found yours and I was in a hurry.
Really liked it and it turned out perfect.
I did the 6x, as I was having daughter and great grand children for a few days.
Plus my baby girl who lives not too far asked if she could have some with pecans in them, so I obliged.

They were wonderful! I used whole teas of vanilla, added 1/2 kefir& 1/2 milk & used 2 Tbl of honey. Also baked them in my silicone forms @ 425 for 12-15 min. Till golden brown.

Best waffles we’ve ever had. Light, crispy, tender inside, great flavor even plain.
I doubled the recipe and found I needed to add about a 1/4 cup of milk (I’d used up the buttermilk so I just used the 2% I had open) to loosen the batter so it would spread on the waffle iron more easily. They came out perfectly. Thank you!

We made the waffles today and they are great. I didn’t have buttermilk but we had buttermilk powder and it worked perfectly. Another recipe to add to my list of family favorites.
