  • Romaine Lettuce: Substitute with iceberg or spinach for a twist.
  • Mixed Salad Greens: Feel free to use any other greens you have on hand.
  • Proteins (Ham, Turkey, Eggs, Bacon): Roast beef or chicken can also work. Feel free to use the pre-peeled hard-boiled eggs you can buy at the grocery store.
  • Cheeses: Cheddar or Swiss are great, but any cheese you love works. We highly encourage adding feta cheese as well!
  • Dressing: Brings it all together. Use your favorite store-bought dressing or try a homemade vinaigrette.

Salad Dressing Options

  • Ranch Dressing: A classic choice, ranch is creamy and has a balanced flavor that works well with both the vegetables and the meats in the salad. Its richness enhances the overall taste without dominating the other ingredients.
  • Cilantro Lime Ranch Dressing: This is a zesty twist on the classic ranch dressing. The fresh, citrusy flavors of lime and the distinctive taste of cilantro add a refreshing and vibrant touch to the salad, making it an exciting option for those who enjoy a bit of a kick in their dressing.
  • Copycat Olive Garden Salad Dressing: A popular favorite, this dressing brings the beloved taste of Olive Garden’s signature salad to your home. It’s a unique blend of Italian herbs, oil, and vinegar, with a slightly creamy texture and a savory, tangy flavor profile. This dressing pairs wonderfully with a chef salad, complementing the various ingredients without overpowering them.
  • Italian Vinaigrette: For those who prefer a lighter option, an Italian vinaigrette is ideal. Its tangy and slightly sweet profile brings out the freshness of the greens and the savoriness of the meats.
  • Blue Cheese Dressing: A bold choice, blue cheese dressing adds a tangy and slightly pungent flavor that pairs especially well with the hard-boiled eggs and bacon in the salad. Itโ€™s a great option if you enjoy a more robust taste.
  • Honey Mustard Dressing: Offering a blend of sweet and tangy flavors, honey mustard dressing is another versatile option that complements the different components of a chef salad quite well.
  • Thousand Island Dressing: A slightly sweet, tangy dressing with a hint of zest, Thousand Island dressing can add a delightful complexity to your salad.
  • Balsamic Vinaigrette: If you’re looking for something with a bit more acidity, a balsamic vinaigrette can be a great choice. Its rich, slightly sweet flavor works well with the variety of ingredients in a chef salad.

Remember, the key to dressing any salad is moderation. Start with a small amount, toss, and add more if needed. The dressing should lightly coat the ingredients, not drown them. This way, each component of your chef salad remains distinct, creating a harmonious blend of flavors in every bite.

Meal Prep & Storage Instructions

  • Pre-Cut Veggies: Chop your vegetables and store them in airtight containers in the fridge.
  • Pre-Cook Proteins: Cook the eggs, bacon, or chicken ahead of time and refrigerate.
  • Assembly: Assemble the salad without the dressing and store it in the fridge. Add the dressing and croutons just before serving.

You can store undressed salad in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. but salad that already has dressing on it does not keep long in the refrigerator and will get soggy quickly. We typically do not bother to keep leftovers already smothered in dressing.
